Art Displayed...

Art, after all,
is traditionally displayed against vacancies:
paintings on dun walls,
sculptures in empty spaces,
music in quiet halls.

...a series of small things...

Great things are not done by impulse,
but by a series of small things brought together.

Happiness Pursued!

Happiness
is like a butterfly
which,
when pursued
is always beyond our grasp,
but,
if you will sit down quietly
may alight upon you.

"If you have anything really valuable to contribute to the world it will come through the expression of your own personality, that single spark of divinity that sets you off and makes you different from every other living creature."

Be who you really are!

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards;
they try to have more things, or more money,
in order to do more of what they want,
so they will be happier.

The way it actually works is the reverse.
You must first be who you really are,
then do what you need to do,
in order to have what you want.

The sleeper must awaken.”

Tranquility...

The more tranquil a man becomes,
the greater is his success,
his influence,
his power for good.

Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.

Form and Function

“Form follows function - that has been misunderstood.
Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”

Good is Always Beautiful!

That which is striking and beautiful is not always good,
but that which is good
is always beautiful.
~Ninon de L'Enclos
(1620 - 1705)

Anne de l’Enclos was born in Paris in 1620. Her father always called her Ninon, however, and that was the name she used all her life. Apparently, her mother was an ardent Catholic and her father an Epicurean wastrel. Thus, the first major decision in her life was which parent to emulate. As her name might suggest, her heart belonged to daddy. Biographers note that she was quite precocious and well read in both religion and philosophy by the age of twelve.

Leave a trail!

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path
and leave a trail.

US essayist & poet (1803 - 1882)

Kindness is a gift!

Kindness is a gift that you freely give to the world, strangers, and loved ones. There are no strings attached, just the organic nature of random kindness is the purity from which it comes and touches someone’s life to uplift and bring them joy!

Remember...Creativity is delicate.

Creativity is so delicate a flower that praise tends to make it bloom while discouragement often nips it in the bud.

Dreams...nourish and protect them!

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.

- Woodrow Wilson

Understand...

It is in identifying yourself
with the hopes, dreams, fears and longings of others
that you may understand them
and help them.
~Wilferd A. Peterson
(August 21, 1900 - June 2, 1995)

Exerpt taken from his biography:  His greatest influences from other writers and philosophers include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Abraham Lincoln, among many others. His contemporaries include Norman Vincent Peale and Dale Carnegie, and current writers and philosophers such as Jack Canfield and Brian Tracy have referred to Wilferd Peterson's works.

IDEAS!

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas
If your ideas are any good
you'll have to ram them down people's throats

Just Laugh!

Just laugh, smile, and enjoy!

Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog — few people are interested,
and the frog dies.

~ E.B. White, "A Sub-treasury of American Humor"
